Support a Great Cause at Brooklyn Wellness in the Park

WHO

Any and all members of the Brooklyn community, regardless of age and body type, as well as numerous local health and fitness businesses and vendors.

WHAT

Brooklyn Wellness in the Park is a new health and wellness event this summer brought to you by the Global Autism Project. The goal of this event is to bring members of our communities together to exercise and learn how to get fit and stay healthy in their everyday lives. Participants who come to the wellness event will enjoy group workouts led by local coaches, as well as have opportunities to get more information about community fitness studios and wellness centers, sample both local and national health food products, and participate in exciting raffles and giveaways.

WHY

All proceeds from this event go to the Global Autism Project, a Brooklyn-based non-profit organization that is committed to empowering communities worldwide to address the needs of individuals affected by autism. The Global Autism Project implements new and sustains existing programs in the United States as well as in under-resourced countries abroad. The Global Autism Project believes in the importance of healthy minds and bodies, both within the scope of their organization and beyond it, so they are joining together with our community to promote the universal importance of health and wellness. For more information about the Global Autism Project, visit their website at www.globalautismproject.org.

HOW

All you have to do is show up at Brooklyn Wellness in the Park for a day full of fun fitness classes and activities, great food, wellness education, and community bonding. The event is free, but there is a suggested donation of $10 to support the Global Autism Project’s national and international programs and future events like this one.

We’ve Got Press! Check Out Our Recent TRX Class Review

Here’s a preview of the article “TRX:The Final Frontier” from Mygymandtrainer.com:

“Michelle Hobgood helms her class over at Brooklyn’s Body Elite Gym. Though Michelle teaches TRX out of the private gym, you don’t have to be a member to take her class. Sessions will run you about $25 and classes in the airy studio are small and personalized. Michelle is a certified fitness trainer, who in addition to TRX Suspension, also specializes in Mommy & Me fitness (which includes Mommy TRX). She is the founder of Fusion Fitness & Wellness where she coaches her clients to think synergistically about fitness, nutrition and overall wellbeing. In her care, you’ll find a kinder, gentler approach to TRX in a group setting. Make no mistake, Michelle will have you feeling the burn that comes with a Suspension workout, but she’ll also have you feeling like you’re a fearless kid on the playground, flying high and having fun. Her demeanor is disarming and if you walk in with any sort of self-doubt, she’s got the ability to melt it right off you.”

NEW Class-The Formula, Starts Monday, Sept.27th

As a Personal Trainer,I’m frequently asked what kind of fitness routine I follow to stay in shape. After years of being blessed with an awesome metabolism, the 30′s came in with a bang and tried to spoil the party. I had to come up with a routine  that included everything I felt was necessary to challenge my metabolism, have loads of variety, not take up too much time and most of all, keep producing results. I called it my formula and now I’m sharing it with you.

Check out the Formula here. It’s replacing the Ultimate Body Boot Camp but never fear, it’s just as good if not better!

Tunnel to Towers Run/Walk, Sept 26th

When a client of mine, told me she wanted to get in better shape for this run/walk, I decided to not only train her but join her as well. I’m so proud to be taking part in the 2010 Tunnel to Towers Run hosted by the Firefighter Stephen Siller’s Children Foundation. What better way to give back then to support a worthy cause such as this one?

A Hero’s Story*
Stephen Siller, beloved husband and father of five, was a firefighter from Squad 1, Park Slope Brooklyn. On 9/11, he was off-duty, and on his way to golf with his 3 older brothers.

When Stephen heard on his scanner that the World Trade Center had been hit, he turned his vehicle around and headed towards the site. When his truck was prohibited from entering the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, typically of him, he raced on foot towards the site with his gear strapped to his back.

He was last seen alive on West and Liberty Streets where he, more than likely, went looking for his Squad, all of whom perished. The Tunnel to Towers Run retraces Stephen’s footsteps on that fateful day.

In running along his path, we honor the memory of all the Firefighters, Police, and EMS workers who performed their duty that day. In running this race, we are reclaiming still another part of the city for all our heroes and for all of those who died on 9/11.

Follow the Footsteps of a Hero
The Tunnel to Towers Run/Walk is 5K/3.1 miles and draws upwards of 20,000 people from kids to adults. This event takes place on Sunday September 26th and is only $50 if you register before September 22nd, 2010. Please click here for more information and to register.
